Soliloquies

It's 2025 and I’ve essentially taken a hiatus from social media. I haven’t deleted my accounts, but I’ve deleted the apps from my phone to counteract the mindless doomscrolling I found myself doing nearly constantly. My accounts are still accessible via computer, so I can find content I want to consume, but at a more intentional pace. So, I created this page in my studio journal for things I may otherwise have thrown into a social media feed - or actually, probably wouldn’t have.

These are things that don’t warrant a standalone post or email to your inbox (or really need to be read at all😅). I’m considering it my own personal tumblr, though I never had one, and don’t actually know if this is how one was used.

“Soliloquies” because I love a good play (especially a musical) and “Talking to myself out loud” was too long for a website header.

Anyway. Welcome to my brain.

  • Just made this page and already overthinking what I will write here. Decided the goal is to… not overthink. Is it possible?
  • Today is the 4th day my son has been home from school this week (3 sick days, today is a snow day). Next week it is supposed to snow every day which may mean more snow days. The following week is February vacation. So. Yeah.

  • My first post on this new platform is about to go out. I scheduled it for 6am hoping that by the time I woke up, it would already be out, so I couldn’t consider changing it for the 1,132 time. Of course, I woke up at 5.
  • Just started Ina Garten’s memoir and have already cried (only a little bit) twice?
  • Sharing this photo I’ve been looking at when I need to regulate my anxiety in case someone needs it (I’m really watching it as a video but can’t upload it right now)

  • I stayed in bed until 7:45 this morning. I can’t remember the last time I slept past 6:30 and I don’t think I have ever stayed in bed once I knew my son was up. But I was tired and he and Mike went to the gym and it was great.

This morning’s conversation with my son:

Him: What’s your favorite bird?

Me: My favorite bird is an owl but I’ve never seen one in the wild. My favorite I’ve seen is a heron. What’s yours?

Him: A hawk

Me: what?! I didn’t know that!! (I did)

Him: yeah, I love birds.

Me: what a surprise!

Him: yeah, well I am your son you know.
