"A Creative's Guide for Persevering" (a poem) + How I Wrote It

At the end of January, I was in a bit of a creative writing slump. I'd been creating something in my sketchbook daily, so instead of painting, I challenged myself to write a poem. I ended up writing A Creative's Guide for Persevering, in a bit of an unconventional way, so today thought I'd share how I wrote it in case you'd like to try something similar, or are just interested in how my brain works.
I am sharing the poem here with everyone, and the behind the scenes how-to is available for those who have upgraded to a paid subscription (thank you!!). As a reminder, paid subscriptions start at $5/month or $50/year and include early access to original art, additional journal entries, referral bonuses, and free shipping options. You can sign in to manage your subscription here or upgrade using the button at the bottom of the email. My full studio journal can be found here. If you have any questions, just reply to this email and I'll get back to you!
A Creative's Guide for Persevering
If I believe in anything,
it is to be curious
in conversation with the land,
and welcome magic in your breath,
and flow with the language of this season
and be held by poetry
when hours begin to blur
so we might see art
in the contours of every being
and subscribe to care for
everything else.
