About

Hi, I’m Jocelyn (she/her)! I‘m an artist, writer and mom living north of Boston, MA. I create vibrant and expressive mixed media paintings with a focus on abstraction and natural coastal landscapes, inspired by my home in New England, and time spent living in Southern California and Normandy, France. My work explores what it means to be alive from the interconnected lens of the human experience and natural world. I am interested in how we can live differently and better alongside the earth and each other.
I am committed to environmental consciousness, keep my studio free of animal products, and work to be an ally and advocate, with a specific focus on brain injury survivors and neurodivergent individuals as well as women, children and the LGBTQIA+ community.
I have a longer, formal bio, on my website, but since we’re going beyond the studio, here is what it won’t tell you:
- I’m a triple Libra and love learning about astrology.
- My first creative business was as a calligrapher.
- I sing constantly and love song lyrics. I would love to be a lyricist, which is probably why I started writing poems. In high school, I kept a 100+ page document with every lyric/quote I came across and loved. My son was recently gifted a keyboard and I’ve added re-learning how to play to my to-do list (I gave up piano lessons to play the flute when I was younger).
- I am a huge bookworm. Growing up, if I didn’t have a book with me, my family would joke that I was sick. Last year I read 107 books (not including children’s books).
- I want to write a book. There are a few floating around in my brain and various notebooks/apps, but they’re not quite ready to be written.
- I’ve been vegetarian for 13 years, but even before that, always thought I should be. After college, I read a book about eating animals and gave it up cold turkey (so to speak).
- I've had a love of France and French for as long as I can remember. I started learning with a book and cassette tape in maybe 1st grade? I went on to double major and study abroad in Normandy. I would love to live in France one day, or split my time between there and Cape Cod.
About the Studio Journal
Beyond the Studio with Jocelyn Elizabeth is an intimate behind-the-scenes look at my creative practice and life as an artist, writer and mom. Here, you can expect to find visual art, personal essays and poetry. My work explores the question of what it means to be alive from the interconnected lens of our human experience and the natural world, and I am interested in how we can live differently and better alongside the earth and each other. My artwork and more information about me can be found at www.jocelynelizabeth.com.
I transitioned from my traditional newsletter to this format in effort to engage in more personal discussion and build a stronger community. After a layoff from my full-time job at the end of 2023, my ability to support my family and continue my creative practice is possible because of collectors of my visual art, and paid members of my newsletter. I also consciously donate a portion of proceeds of my visual art to mutual aid efforts and charitable organizations aligned with my values.
Here are some ways you can support my work:
- Interested in collecting an original artwork? My online shop is open 2-3 times per year. It is currently closed, with the next release tentatively scheduled for June 2025. When available, you can view my work here.
- Subscribe to my studio journal. For early access to art plus additional journal entries, referral rewards and free shipping, consider a paid subscription, which starts at $5/month or $50/year.
- Support an individual piece of writing without subscribing via a one-time payment.
- Send my newsletter to a friend who may be interested in my work, or engage by commenting on a post!
